RES News: Finals Are Coming - Prepare!

By Bella Gamboa

May 19, 2022

Finals are coming and just like every year, someone is stressed. A lot of students can manage their stress or don’t get stressed, but most feel some stress! Down below, we have listed some methods for preparing for finals and some stress tips to keep you relaxed, happy, and excited for summer!

Preparing for Finals:

Start studying early

You don’t have to study for 5 hours every day for a week! Just review your material in your downtime: Flex, P BLOCK, for 10 minutes at home between your at home activities.

Check the study guide

Review your study guide and the concepts listed on it, fill it out (if applicable) and if you have any questions, AT ALL, or are confused TALK TO YOUR TEACHER!!!

If there is no study guide (usually there is)... ask as MANY questions as you have!

Don’t be embarrassed! Your teachers are getting paid to help you, just like you get paid to work at Portillos! It is their pleasure to help you out and teachers love seeing their students thrive and understand the class concepts (lightbulb moments). They chose this as a career and you are here to learn! Prepare yourself for your final by reviewing concepts that are confusing to you with the experts, YOUR TEACHERS!

Ask your classmates if they understand it!

If you are confused about something, ask your classmates! There is a chance that they will know and can explain it to you (in regular terms)! If not, you have an ally: Someone who can study with you on this or someone who can go with you to the teacher to ask questions.

DON’T PANIC, DON’T STRESS

Stress and anxiety can actually make you do worse on your final. Finals are not that big of a deal and this exam does not define you. It is your way of showing the teachers and yourself what you remember from class, how much you studied, and if you comprehended this semester’s lessons. Most of the time, finals aren’t as difficult as you thought once you take them: Human expectations, whether good or bad, usually are not very realistic.

*STILL PANICKING?

Don’t worry if you can’t relax. Below we have listed some methods that will help you feel tranquil

and some therapeutic practices as well.

*NOT STRESSED?

If you are relaxed and want to try something new for your self care routine, look down below!

SELF CARE PRACTICES

Get a massage!

There are plenty of places to get cheap and good massages! Try it! If you don’t want to pay for a massage, ask a friend or family member to give you one in exchange for a massage from you or a favor.

Skin care!

Skin care is a great way to relax, the sensations on the skin relax the facial muscles and you are honoring yourself by making time for you.

Try something new!

Whether it is a cooking class or a walk in the park, try something new and fun that you will enjoy. Make time for yourself.

Nature!

Nature gives many people tranquility because of the aroma of the plants, the fresh air, and the pretty views. Try walking in the nearest park or google a garden experience near you. YOU CAN EVEN WALK IN THE GARDEN SECTION OF JEWEL.

Drawing! Painting! ART!

If you like art or don’t, try painting or playing with clay. You don’t have to be an artist to reap the benefits of art, just the process can be very therapeutic, relaxing, and fun.

Hot tubs? Spa? Pool?

Water is therapeutic and if you haven’t been in the water for a long time, this experience could be very fun and new. Google spas near you, there are plenty of public pools, jaccuzis, and spas in Illinois.

Animals!

Go to a pet store, the zoo, the aquarium. Being around animals, other types of life, can rejuvenate you and make you feel at peace.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS DO SOMETHING FOR YOU! MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF AND DO NOT STRESS! LIFE'S TOO SHORT AND A TEST DOES NOT DEFINE YOU! TRY YOUR BEST AND FORGET THE REST!
