RES News: The Making of the Resurrection Dance Show

By Antonella Sessa

May 4, 2022

On Wednesday, May 11th, over 50 Resurrection dance students and Orchesis Team members will enter school with only one thing on their minds: performing in the Resurrection Dance Show at 7:00 pm!

For the past semester, the Orchesis Dance Team has built on their previous routines from the fall semester and added some new numbers that the audience is sure to enjoy. The girls practice tirelessly each week, working to perfect each performance so it is ready to be viewed by the watchful eyes of their family, friends, and the rest of the Resurrection community. Orchesis captains Maddie O’Neil ‘22 and Lindsey Valkner ‘24 invite you to witness all of the team’s hard work. “It will be so nice to show off all of our hard work. It has been so fun working with all of our fellow teammates this past semester. We are such a close knit group,” they both say. With the ladies of the Resurrection Dance Team leading the way, May 11th is sure to be a night to remember.

In addition to the Orchesis Dance Team, the students in Ms. Moss’ Dance 1 and 2 classes will take the stage for the first time as dancers. Each dance class will perform 3 dances surrounding 3 styles of dance: jazz, modern, and (an audience and a dancer favorite) hip-hop. Many of the girls in both dance classes had never taken a dance class before Resurrection. Riley McGrath ‘25, a Dance 1 student, says that “Even though I didn’t have any experience before starting this class, I was still able to pick up moves quickly and have so much fun!” Karsen Jummati ‘24, a Dance 2 student, says that “The girls in Dance 2 are so dedicated and are so grateful to Ms. Moss for all that she teaches us!” The girls have made many friendships in their classes and are so excited to make people want to get up and dance with their high energy performances!

Behind every skilled student, there is a wonderful teacher. This is truly the case with Ms. Esther Moss, the coach of the Orchesis Dance Team and the teacher of both Dance 1 and Dance 2 classes. The Spring 2022 show will be Ms. Moss’ second at Resurrection, and she is so excited to expand on all of the positive feedback she received from the first show. She encourages all to come and enjoy the spring show, saying, “I’m so excited for Orchesis and the dance classes to show off what they have been working on all semester. All these girls have worked so hard and I’m so proud of them and what they have accomplished. I’m honored to be their teacher and they all bring such a light to my life each day at RES. I hope I see everyone on May 11th in the little theater at 7pm!” Ms. Moss puts all of her time and effort into making sure that the Resurrection Dance Show is possible. She makes it run smoothly and creates a positive atmosphere for girls to learn the many disciplines of dance.

So, when you are thinking about what to do on Wednesday night, make your way over to the Little Theater to support the Resurrection Dance Program. Doors open at 6:30 pm and admission is $5 at the door. The show will start at 7:00 pm, so be sure to get there early to find good seats and watch the performers! On behalf of the Resurrection Orchesis Dance Team and Dance 1 & 2 students, Ms. Moss thanks the RES community for all of their support and enthusiasm.
