Are you looking for something new to watch on Hulu? All ten episodes of Only Murders in the Building are now streaming. This comedy murder mystery stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, and it is a great Halloween binge. Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) is an old Broadway director looking for a new project, Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin) is an old actor who was a detective on a hit show when he was young, and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) is a 28-year-old who is staying in her aunt’s apartment while she’s renovating it. The three of them are working together to help solve a murder in their building while also trying to make a true-crime podcast about it. To quote Putnam (Martin Short), “The twists and turns of this are unbelievable. It’s like a rainbow crafted by a drunken leprechaun.” Meaning it’s engaging to say the least. There’s something new in every episode and it is always surprising.
I know that combination of actors may sound strange at first, but they surprisingly work really well together. There is a perfect combination of comedy and drama from both the actors and writers. It also stars a few more actors you’ve heard of like Nathan Lane and Tina Fey. You’re probably used to Nathan Lane as the flamboyant Pepper from Modern Family, but he has such serious moments in this series, and it’s great to see all of the actors’ range within a singular show. Steve Martin and Martin Short’s relationship in the series is also a great treat. Their constant banter and back and forth are truly funny throughout.
Only Murders in the Building is a great TV show, whether you are a true-crime fan or not. I am not usually one for murder mysteries and crime shows, but I loved this first season and cannot wait for the next one. It is so nice not only getting to solve the murder with these characters but see them grow as well. I highly recommend this show to any true crime lover or comedy enthusiast.
